I was able to witness Katarina's wedding today, it was a fine event. Minus the constant grumblings of one of the other attendees. I wish the newlyweds all the best and that the gods smile down upon them for the rest of their lives together.

Relationship Note on Jael
How about interior decorating for a subject change? I hear from Lord Percephon that my lovely sister Jael would like to repaint our home and that she DETESTS the shade of yellow. She also wants to get all new furniture and take everything we currently own and throw it out into the streets and use it to start a bonfire. I can't believe her audacity! Young women these days!

Well the hunt could have gone better, a Wymguard relative I do not know managed to shoot Sir Silas prompting early departures, even if he was uninjured, then one of the beaters was mauled by a bear. We might have then slain the beast but it cast a sombre hue over proceedings.

I am not sure what I was expecting to hear from my scouts, but another army of Abandoned moving from the Oathlands was not it. There is relief on one hand, they are not menacing my home and my people, but we are already sorely outnumbered here in the east.
The congratulations for having somehow sent away the local shavs is at best darkly amusing. I suppose this is the other side of the coin from being blamed for poor harvests.

The king wakes? Tremendous news, but I have to wonder, how was his soul returned to his body? I was under the impression that this was a near impossible task. I only hope that his majesty was returned whole and will entirely recover.

Prince, now Duke, Dagon's marriage to Duchess Margot was not something I expected to walk in on. Why was it held on such a small scale and without an announcement or invitations? Still, it was a lovely ceremony even if I only caught the end of it and they seem a remarkably happy couple considering the political nature of the union.

I will have to thank Prince Tristram in person for obtaining the sparring weapons, not to mention the idea behind them, I think most were even returned after the melee leaving a fair assortment for the training center, quite unmistakable in who provided them.

Attendance at the tournament was not as high as I expected, apparently there was a war council happening? I am not sure that Jael will accept that I jousted just to make up the numbers however.
Still it did get rather dramatic and Tristan was an unexpected but honourable victor, the man's skill on horseback was stunning, by far the best rider I have ever seen and a worthy champion.
The melee might be best described as brutal with a number of the competitors carrying on far past where I would have thought they would need to bow out, Sir Roland's victory well deserved and hard fought. Princess Sophie's medical attention was sorely needed in the aftermath though and I hope everyone recovers well.

Relationship Note on Gilbert
And so Gilbert has arrived in the capital, there are plenty of reasons to have him here, he is very capable and it is good to have a capable Sworn Sword for our house here in Arx rather than relying upon micromanaged mercenaries. On the other hand he is definitely one to always remember that he has saved my life.

I am tempted to stop visiting the training center, or at least doing so in armour and ready to spar, I should stick with my own sworn swords instead of being endlessly thrashed by the various improbably good swordsmen who apparently populate the capital.

Duke Gabriel for regent? I can think of worse choices certainly, I have never met the man but certainly respect his reputation, not to mention, he is not one of the members of the Great Houses. He has less far incentive to outright loot the Crown to further his own family than one of them would, not that I suspect he would do such a thing.

That sounds either egotistical or facile, but facing demon led shavs in unfamiliar territory? I thought we were going to get mauled and suffer more casualties than we dealt even if we did everything right. My pessimism was misplaced though, the enemy do not fight exceptionally well, our casualties almost absent, the foe slaughtered. But it turns out their numbers are horrendous, they must have mobilised every able bodied adult in the Grey Forest and formed them into an army intent upon murdering us.
I doubt they have the supplies for a siege of the capital and I also doubt they have the numbers to take Arx by storm, but they could ruin the lands of house Greyson for a generation or sack everything short of and perhaps including ducal castles.

So Ida opened his asylum, which I am sure he would argue is terribly scientific, but from my interactions with the man I cannot half help but wonder if he should be an inmate within. Still, I helped him with founding it and with luck the establishment will do some good.

The banquet was a success, insomuch as my larders and cellar are now empty and no blood was spilled. Less cynically there seems to be a gratifying number of letters thanking me for the evening and it was wonderful to see so many attend.
All in all a success and something to repeat, though not too soon so as to avoid such events growing stale.

Meeting Jael again after these months apart is a pleasure, the circumstances of our encounter less so. Bizarrely, the near brawl in the nicest salon in the capital was not at all her fault, my sister has in fact grown up, which is fortunate given the smouldering inferno that is Arx right now.

A brave and honest man, very sincere in his honour and somebody I would trust absolutely. Perhaps I wonder if he is being assertive enough in pressing the cause of the Oathlands but then this is hardly the moment to seek personal aggrandisement and he would not be who he is if he sought it.

Command, I knew it was coming, I just wish we knew more about our foes. A quarter of the gathered force of the Oathlands to be riding under my banners to harry the foe but we still do not know their numbers, their goals, even how they are remaining supplied.
Regardless of the demons bolstering their ranks however most of them are men and women, humans, I know all too well how to bring war to fellow humans.
