Relationship Note on Shae

Thank you for helping me off the field and making sure I was cared for after the battle. Lady Olivia did a fine job of stitching my arm back on, and when I returned home, Reigna looked it over and redressed it. She's sure I'll make a full recovery, I just won't be training for a time. If you haven't you should let Reigna treat your leg as well.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

Happy birthday, Duke Cristoph!

We saved your cabbages again to mark the occasion!

No good deed goes unpunished, but I'd still do it again without hesitation. I made a promise and kept it.

As much as I adore Hawkbear, I think I'll soon need a knightly sword of proper Oathlands fashion. I had a thought about what to name it too: Wildly Inappropriate.

I've been routinely humbled, if not utterly humiliated too many times to count since deciding I ought to be at least passingly familiar with the martial arts. So far I've fallen off horses a great number of times, I've been absolutely destroyed in sparring contests without landing a single blow on my opponents, I've tripped during an archery contest and even accidentally struck Kael with a wooden bat at a party, and there's more I'm just too embarrassed to record.

That said, it's still been fun, cuts and bruises aside and I'm becoming more competent by the day. I do wish though, that I'd had an earlier start on it. You worry far less about your dignity when you're a child.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

Duke Cristoph has been putting many of us to work to make a dream of his a reality. This has been a reprieve of sorts from the tragedy and conflict of late. It hasn't been easy, by any means. In fact some of the process has been quite harrowing and we've put our lives in peril. Still, it's a worthwhile endeavor and I've been glad to help wherever I've been able. The people I've met pursuing this have largely been decent and humble folk, as moved by duty as they are honor, and devoted to the Faith.

It makes me hopeful that the wrongs that have been done may be rectified with effort and the Oathlands made stronger for it.

Relationship Note on Reigna

There's an important intermediary step between having no children, and having children. I think that's the main reason there's fewer new Keatons than you'd like.

You should arrange a marriage for Veronica, is what I'm saying, and Jaerith too.

I hope your knee is feeling better, big cousin. It was a lovely party, aside from that unfortunate accident.

Lady Gretchen may have considered it the result of a lack of imagination rather than a failure of wrist and shoulder, but Norwood was convinced it was solely a question of training. Personally, I think it was a curse, or somehow Venturo's fault.

I spent all morning swinging a wooden sword either way. It only got away from me once or maybe ten or twenty times in truth.

Relationship Note on Tessa

You were too rare to die. It's hard to accept that you're gone, really. I'll remember always your one of a kind style and unique perspective on life, and definitely the kindness you showed me when I first arrived in Arx. It's sad to think your little cottage will be empty and dark now, and your pups in the care of someone else.

I think I would prefer to believe that you've faked your death to run away with a handsome foreign prince of good looks, silver hair and deep pockets. It's just more comforting to imagine that you're still out there breaking hearts and dinner plates, Lady Tessa.

I feel like I haven't been the most sociable of late or my attempts to be have fallen flat. There's been friends and acquaintances I've been meaning to see, and haven't. Occasions and events missed, when I probably could have or should have attended. Missives left unanswered or sent into voids from which there's no reply. I'll start tracking people down once I've made some positive progress on the stuff and things which have a habit of creeping in and crowding out the happier thoughts.

At least I got out to the Kismet Carnival. Venturo put on a grand show, and the games were amusing. I played all but one, though it sounded as if Sir Corban won it handily. The shell game was definitely more suited to my natural talents, but I did do fairly well with the puzzles and even the hammer smash. The latter was truly surprising, but I have been training and have some archery muscles now. I shared some of the Fortuitous I won with Baron Uncle Norwood the following day and somehow refrained from using my winner's stein for winners, since I don't want to be a boorish Lady Show Off.

There was also Lisebet's wedding picnic, hosted by her sister Elsbetta. They had an oven for people, which isn't as macabre as it sounds (I think. I didn't try it). It was a pleasant gathering, though were I Lisebet, I'm not sure I'd want to marry out and live somewhere absent those garden pools. Also, apologies again for River. She's weird about cats, even mountain lions, apparently.

I was sitting under my favorite tree near the river when a leaf fell from above and landed gently in the water. I thought I heard it complain that it was too cold and wet as it was swept out to sea.

Relationship Note on Venturo

Pay no mind to Venturo's warning. Taking a spin on wheelie horse is great fun and not potentially fatal at all. Although, admittedly, I should have insisted he wear a helmet and padding.

I did apologize after he regained consciousness!

Relationship Note on Norwood

Norwood, you should try wheelie horse at our next training session. It's hard to be crabby jousting on wheelie horse. Everyone looks silly... I think. It's not just me, right?

Well, you can have a laugh at me then. I don't mind, if it'll cheer you up.

It seems in all the excitement of the last few months, the women's only nights have been allowed to fall to the wayside with the last chosen host not able to fulfill her duties. It was duly agreed upon that a name change was in order at the last one hosted by Gianna Whisper, as many many many many many many people were all too gleefully happy to point out at every possible opportunity that men are perfectly able and willing to wear skirts and gowns, and thus it was unfair to bar them from attending a 'skirt and gown' night.

Point taken. There is absolutely no prohibition on men wearing skirts nor gowns, and I fully encourage them to do so at every opportunity. I have no idea who named it so originally, but I'll try to think up something new for its resurrection that's utterly without ambiguity. Also, while the Truths and Lie game I created has been fun on the last few occasions, I wonder if something new might be in order to change things up. Details will be forthcoming!

Well, Barf, at this rate you'll be the one remembered 500 years from now. I'll start putting aside some silver for a massive stone monument in your honor to be built on the road to Oakhaven. I hope you won't mind terribly if I make a small note of who rescued you from obscurity on the plaque because it will surely be forgotten otherwise. The inscription shall read:

"In Honor of Barf, the Most Determined Bog Dog, Friend of Prodigals and Defender of Oakhaven. Loyal Companion of Lady Whatsherface Keaton."

Relationship Note on Cristoph

I was really impressed by the scale of the Duke Cristoph's plan for the Artshall School of Agriculture. I'm curious to see how it all comes together, as it will definitely take a lot of effort and further planning to make it a reality. It should be very beneficial though and more than pay for itself in the long term, as there will always be a need for farmers of skill to work the land and keep everyone well fed.

It's easy to get a bit lost in the weeds and frustrated sometimes, trying to contend with various challenges that have the definite feel of being impossible. So it's nice when you have a chance to talk with old friends, and make new ones, and discuss anything but those problems. Even just hearing about the troubles of others is a relief of sorts.

The spring festivities in Artshall were fantastic. Duke Cristoph and Duchess Nicia were excellent and gracious hosts. Everyone seemed to have a grand time, even Barf.

I hope it was a rousing success! I think it was, but I'm biased. My one disappointment was that I hadn't any armor so I couldn't try to joust. Which is just as well, I suppose, given how scary the competition was.
