Thrax has long been cast as the 'villain' of the Compact. Sometimes by their own doing (cough cough, Crownbreaker wars), and sometimes simply by reputation, or convenience. Whether the perception is fair or not can be debated; the fact that it exists cannot. So it is that the news of a duel deciding succession - a duel to the death, an heir challenged by a legitimized bastard - does not sit well at all with the Compact at large. In the Crownlands, the Pridelands, the Oathlands, the Lyceum and the Northlands, Barons, Marquise, Counts, Dukes and commoners alike are making noises of alarm and growing discontent. The usurping bastard doesn't sit well with them at all, and they expect their High Lords to feel the same. They are united, they are more /civilized/, and if this Thraxian brute intends to sit among the highest in that realm, he will have to come around to their way of doing things.
