Unlikely Allies

In the wake of Queen Symonesse Grayson declaration of war, the Compact has many reactions to the announcement. Those who have suffered the most in recent years within the Oathlands and Crownlands are grateful to receive the help of the Compact and find a shred of hope in the Queen's reassurance that aid is coming, even if it will be necessary to grit one's teeth at the manner of some of that help. The North seems to follow suit with its nearest peers and some even see some opportunity within the Queen's announcement. The people of the Lyceum and Saffron Isles view the declaration as unexpectedly shrewd on the part of their Queen, who has been famed for her gentleness and refusal to dip to heavily into Compact politics in the past. As such, they remain watchful, wary, and interested, wondering what else their surprisingly cunning Queen has up her sleeve, especially when she is willing to burn a decade's worth of goodwill on such a risky move. After all, 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend (until they aren't) is a very Lycene way of looking at things which decidedly not the usual Grayson line of thought. The Mourning Isles are the most outraged about the announcement of the alliance and some make noises about wanting to secede from the Compact, but the reality is that the fealty is very weak in the wake of their civil war and leaving the Compact would make them easy prey if they have to fight alone. So, while the Islanders might make disgruntled noises, they begrudgingly accept it. What other choice do they have? While no one is particularly pleased with Queen Symonesse's announcement when it comes to the Abandoned, most are willing to accept this for now, if only to have a hope of not losing any further territory.
